It will be an evening of great food, amazing speakers, inspirational and thought-provoking live-streamed talks, and mind-blowing discussion with a focus on women and girls, issues that effect them, and their ability to affect change.

The event will run from 4-9 p.m. and will be held at the Topeka Performing Arts Center (TPAC) in beautiful downtown Topeka. Tickets are currently on sale and will be available until 1 week before the event, with ticket sales closing at midnight on October 20. General admission tickets are $35; student tickets are available for $25 if students provide a student ID number.

The event will take part in two sessions with an intermission between and will be emceed by City Council person Michelle de la Isla and previoius TEDxTopeka presenter Dr. David Carter. The first session will consist of national speakers live-streamed from the TEDWomen conference in California. Intermission will include heavy appetizers and time to network with attendees and the evening’s live speakers. The final session will consist of 7 live speakers. Learn more about our speakers and their topics over on the Speakers Page.

“This event is an opportunity for speakers from Topeka and the surrounding areas to share their ideas about women and women’s issues with a global audience,” said Nathan Morris, TEDxTopeka founder and organizing committee member. “There is truly amazing talent in our community, and we want TEDxTopeka to shine a light on local voices and ideas.”

The independently produced event is operated under a license from TED, is organized by community volunteers, and aims to start conversations, share ideas, and engage the community.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxTopeka, where x = independently organized TED event. At our event, TEDTalk videos and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
